The SOLVI Wash Guide

How much detergent does a standard load actually need?

Most detergent instructions assume you know what a standard load is. Few people do. A standard load is roughly six to eight pounds of dry laundry, which is about one full drum of a typical home machine without pressing clothes down.

Overdosing is the most common laundry mistake. More detergent does not mean cleaner clothes. Past the right dose, extra detergent stops rinsing out fully and stays behind in fabric. That leftover film can trap odor, stiffen towels, and irritate skin.

Underdosing has its own cost. Too little surfactant means soil lifted from fabric early in the cycle can redeposit before the rinse. Grey looking whites are often a dosing problem, not a detergent quality problem.

This is the quiet advantage of a pre-measured format. One SOLVI sheet is designed as one standard load dose, so the start of the wash is repeatable. For large or heavily soiled loads, use two sheets. That is the whole decision.

If you keep using liquid, at minimum measure with the cap on a flat surface and use the lowest line for average loads. Or skip the cap entirely.
